A Natural Number Following Forty-One and Directly Preceding Forty-Three
Dear Diary,
One day, when deep in thought
and googling,
it came to me – like a bolt out of the blue
links of Wikipedia,
the ones waiting to be explored.
It was a question that crossed my mind:
the weather seemed apt,
so, to ego surf or not to ego surf?
It seems a simple thing,
to type ones name into a box
and click on that enticing button.
But as expected,
those links have evil intentions.
You know, they have a nasty habit
of leading you down rabbit holes
and into unknown territory
as the breadcrumb trails accumulate
and in the confusion you forget
where it was you started from
and what it was you were doing in the first place.
That’s not to say I wasted a day though;
I discovered many things –
seems the internet has a lot to say about me.
I’m well worth searching, it turns out.
But not all of what they say is positive
and that can put a damper on your day;
I mean, I’ve never claimed to be perfect
and saying I’m self-centred is just plain rude.
I guess some people are like that, just jealous.
It can’t be helped.
Don’t be fooled in thinking you can do what I do.
Because I make rainbows shine – you can’t.
I am what they call a natural after all.
And whoever says that I bring bad luck,
well, I can only presume their eyes are at them
and that that’s why they can’t see me for what I am.
They must have slipped through the cracks
and missed my tale being sung,
because how else could you miss me? After all,
I am the answer to the ultimate question
of life, the universe and everything.
So, nothing new to post so here's a poem I wrote back in January for my creative writing module.
I was trying to write something funny. It got some good comments by whoever was marking my poetry selection, but I was never fully happy with the result.
